New Castle Jr./Sr. High School
The New Castle Jr./Sr. High School Project Ignition Team will expand on our “Drive Safe” message from last year which included stressing ways to reduce the risks involved behind the wheel in order to remain “accident-free” and “ticket-free.” Although we will continue to promote overall safe driving habits, our message content will focus mainly on increasing seat-belt use by teens and adults, increasing adherence to traffic control devices and obeying the laws, decreasing driving distractions and stressing the dangers of drinking and driving. One of our new goals is to create our own DVD and book of stories by teens and family members that can be submitted to our state Dept. of Transportation and/or Dept. of Education as a resource to be shown in all school districts throughout the state with the “Drive Safe” message. We are also looking at creating and hosting a “Drive Safe” conference for Western Pennsylvania.
We will have a mock accident, participate in the Light-up Night Parade with a float, pass out literature during Make-a-Difference Day and Election Day (“Vote” for Safe Driving!), get other school districts involved in our Lifesaver campaign to promote seat-belt use, bring in guest speakers, programs and a driving simulator, host a New Teen Driver Parent Night during Open House, and activities during Homecoming, Prom and Teen Driving Safety Week.
