"Snap It, Save It! Buckle Up for Safety!"

Howenstine High Magnet School
Tucson, Arizona

Our Project Ignition team incorporated the entire student body and faculty in our message of teen driving safety. A PSA was developed and last year’s PSA was translated into Spanish. Both PSAs are broadcast on the TUSD Education Chanel that reaches more than 150,000 households. We hosted Project Ignition Day with breakout sessions that included: driving safety games for the students with special needs, police presentations with fatal vision goggles, online driving game, teen statistics, a paraplegic from MADD, and family members of a teen killed in a car accident. Letters were sent to state representatives imploring them to amend Arizona’s seat-belt laws, by changing it from a secondary to a primary. Finally, presentations were made to three elementary schools and one middle school where we played seat belt musical chairs and sang a song about seat-belt safety.
