How to Apply

The grant application period for Project Ignition 2009-10 is open.

Application Form

Students interested in participating in Project Ignition must be willing to create and produce an innovative public awareness, service-learning project based on teen driver safety. Students must create the project, along with the support of a teacher/advisor and their school/organization.

Submissions in round one simply require filling out the application form and completely answering all questions. Qualified applicants must then print the application and get it signed by their teacher and principal. Entries without student, teacher, and principal signatures will not be accepted.

Application Year & Grants

An application year is 18 months long, from round one application to final award announcement at The National Service-Learning Conference each spring.

Key dates for the 2009-10 application year:

  • June 2009
  • Applications submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. (CDT) on June 30. Applications reviewed on or around June 30.
  • August 2009
  • Notification of winning grants made (Early August) to 25 applicants selected to move into phase two of Project Ignition.
  • September 2009
  • Presentation of $2,000 grant checks to 25 schools in early September by a local State Farm representative.
  • September - December 2009
  • Student teams complete and implement projects.
  • December 2009
  • Final project submissions must be received by Dec. 18, 2009.
  • January 2010
  • Up to 10 finalists notified by January and awarded up to $5,000 for travel to The National Service-Learning Conference.
  • (The remaining 15 schools will be awarded $2,500 for travel to the conference).
  • March 2010
  • March 24-27: National Service-Learning Conference in San Jose, Calif. Projects showcased and presented to an audience of peers. Best of the Best award of $10,000 presented to one school selected by the judges.
